Thank you for all that applied.
Do you know where Descanso’s “living room” is? If it’s up to our new branch manager, April Davidson-Arce, it’s our library. After serving in multiple capacities at libraries in Campo, Alpine and Rancho San Diego, April declares she’s excited to dedicate her energies to making Descanso’s library a hub of the community. She hopes the library’s open doors will encourage neighbors to gather and she promises to furnish the added convenience of providing up to date and fulfilling reading material as well as relevant resources.
Raised from a young age in Campo, April is the product of the Mt, Empire School District. Her mother, a longtime Campo library manager was instrumental in developing April’s biblio-literary learnings. Folks who thrive on reading Evanovich novels will find a kindred spirit in April. Could there be a book club in the future?
April’s fun side embraces seasonal and themed decorations for the library, kids’ activities and programs, crafting opportunities and making learning engaging and uplifting. April admits she ‘kinda likes’ to talk too. She’s also a Halloween costume designer and seamstress, so we all have something to look forward to!
Being a source of information for community members is one of April’s fondest hopes. She wants to meet new people, provide outstanding customer service, promote STEAM relating learning and foster good relationships with library users. She is eager to increase the number of library patrons.
Everyone is invited to drop by the library, pull up a chair in our living room and become acquainted with April. She’d like it if you’d share some of our community’s history and your place in it with her. In exchange, perhaps she will share some of her Shoshone heritage with you.

A Friends Tribute to Peggy Machado
Countless numbers of children, now adults, will remember Mrs. Machado as the quiet spoken librarian who helped them pick out the books they loved and led the crafts and events in the library and made it the memorable place it is.
But for the rest of us we will miss our friend. Peggy’s welcoming smile, kindness, and generosity of spirit lifted us and urged us to be better people. She liked a good laugh and we thank her for sharing that too.
Peggy was at the Descanso Branch Library from its beginnings. Working with Mollie Jean, Edie, Beryl, Mo, Ruth, and more, they moved Descanso to build a new library at its current site and preserve the old library as a testimony. The look on Peggy’s face said it all as she watched the children’s parade of books from that old site to the new…pride, excitement at the prospect of new adventures, and learning. She made it what it is today. Many staff who benefited from her mentorship will attest to that.
Our hearts break for Norm, Mary, and Becky and her grandchildren. We were blessed to have her in our lives. Thank you for sharing her love with us and we hope you find comfort and a smile when you look at our beautiful library (and garden) and know how much we valued her and how much we, too will miss her.
